Fibre optics is used effectively in medical field. It is extensively used in endoscopy. Here internal parts of the human body can be viewed using fibrescopes. The laser- fiberscope combination made it possible even selective cauterization of tissues. A fiberscope is a device used for obtaining accurate image of an object using optical fibres. A coherent fibre bundle is used for transmitting an image from one end to another. Normally two optical fibre bundles are employed here. One is used for transmitting and focusing light from the laser source to the human part. The other one collects the light from the human part and transmit it to the detector. Fibrescopes also have industrial applications. They are used to examine welds, nozzles and combustion chambers inside jet aircraft engines.
