Cellular digital packet data (CDPD)

Wireless communication is undergoing an explosive growth recent days. Wireless local area networks (WLANs) are common now.  Latest ATM technology uses wireless asynchronous transfer mode (WATM). In wireless personal area network (WPAN), human body is treated as medium. In a cellular communication system, a large number of low-power wireless transmitters are used for the creation of the cells which overlap at the outer boundaries. The three hardware components of a cellular network are cell site, mobile telephone switching office and mobile handset. Cellular digital packet data (CDPD) is the latest technology in wireless data communication. It is a cellular standard which provides internet protocol data service over the existing cellular voice networks and circuit switched telephone networks. The operating frequency range of CDPD is 800 MHz-900 MHz. CDPD supports multiple sessions and airlink transmission at a raw data rate of 113.2 kbps. Internet protocol and OSI connectionless network protocol can be used in CDPD. For the access, CDPD modems are used.
